The MFL has announced two pension events for November, 2013. Both events will be presented in partnership with SHARE, the Shareholder Association for Research and Education.
A one-day Manitoba Pension Boot Camp will be held November 4th in Winnipeg. The workshop will provide an introduction to pension issues and terminology for union members interested in becoming more involved in pension issues. Topics will include (1) elements of the Canadian retirement system; (2) pension plan basics; (3) the role of unions in pension plan governance; and (4) member engagement on pension issues. The next day, there will be a Manitoba Pension Forum , featuring keynote speaker, Paul Moist, national president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. The half-day conference will bring pension trustees, advisory committee members and pension activists together with investment managers, public policy makers, plan sponsors, union representatives and leading thinkers to discuss key issues and challenges surrounding pension plan governance, funding and investment.
