Day one of the 2012 MFL Convention was busy with the President’s address, numerous award presentations, passage of several constitutional amendments and a major workplace health and safety announcement from the Minister of Labour.
The convention opening ceremonies featured an Invocation from Elder Florence Paynter (photo at right) and an enthusiastic singing of Solidarity Forever led by The Brothers (see photo).
MFL President called on delegates to keep up the pressure on governments to bring in fair labour laws that ban replacement workers and ensure the right to form a union when a majority of workers in a workplace have signed up for the union.
Delegates also received an engaging presentation from Wyatt Delbridge, a young participant inthe annual CLC Kids Camp. Wyatt urged affiliate unions to continue supporting the camp.
Debate on the floor saw several resolutions passed that amended the MFL consitution to expand Executive Council and add an Executive position for Young Members.
