New web service lets Manitobans see which bosses have been penalized for violating workers’ rights.

The Manitoba government has announced a new web page where workers can find out which employers have been penalized for violating workers’ rights under the Employment Standards Code. That code Code sets out the minimum standards and rights that employers must respect in Manitoba. These include:

  • the right to time off when a family member falls ill or dies;
  • minimum vacation rights;
  • the right to be paid extra for working overtime or on public holidays;
  • limits on child labour;
  • the right to adequate break time;
  • the minimum wage;

and more (for more information see http://www.gov.mb.ca/labour/standards/doc,quick_guide,factsheet.html)

If employers refuse to comply with minimum Employment Standards even after being ordered to by the Province, they can be fined up to $10,000. With the availability of the document on the government website, information about employers who are penalized for breaking the Employment Standards Code will now be available online for all Manitobans to see. Click here to view the latest list in PDF format..
